Lyric Analysis — “Buried Alive”

At its core, Buried Alive is a confession from inside emotional collapse — obsession turned ritual, desire transformed into slow-motion catastrophe. The narrator isn’t fighting temptation anymore; he’s submerged beneath it, aware of the damage yet powerless to surface.

The repeated vow —

“This will be the last time / I set my soul on fire”

lands not as certainty, but as self-deception. Every declaration of escape is immediately contradicted by surrender. The soul is already burning; the fire is already lit.

The song’s central refrain —

“This obsession is keeping me buried alive”

frames the entire narrative. Not dead — suspended, trapped in emotional suffocation.

“Hands are tied and I can’t turn the chapter”

introduces paralysis. The speaker recognizes the story is destroying him, yet cannot flip the page.

“For you I bleed / Eternally”

marks endless sacrifice — martyrdom through obsession.

When the chorus shifts to —

“This obsession is keeping me barely alive / Lost my mind and heading for disaster”

the stakes escalate. The narrator is spiraling, losing control, yet still chained to this destructive devotion.

The bridge moves into dissociation:

“Drifting in unconsciousness / I don’t know what to do / In the spell of you”

Here obsession stops being theatrical and becomes clinical. Numbness replaces anguish, surrender replaces struggle.

By the end —

“Now this obsession it keeps me buried alive… / It’s all coming down”

— inevitability dominates. There is no heroic escape. Only collapse. This is a song about knowing you’re drowning… and reaching for the hand pulling you under anyway.

Pure gothic fatalism. Cold romanticism. Emotional self-immolation set to circuitry and steel. Very Infectious Unease.
