Yamatai Records’ fifth year of existence is being marked not just in sound but in vision, and this release embodies that vision fully. The artwork, created by Gaijin Graphics, is a masterclass in patience and reverence: twelve bespoke spirit designs inspired by Japanese folklore, each carrying its own story, meaning, and weight. This single introduces us to the Hanya Mask Spirit, a demon of jealousy, tormented and vengeful, sharp horns glinting, metallic eyes glaring — a mirror to the complex emotions that this release channels through sound.
The collaboration between Leks and Silloh feels inevitable, forged from mutual respect and technical mastery. Both Brighton-based artists are pioneers in their own right — Leks, the unapologetically raw in-house starlight of Yamatai, refining his sound with every release, and Silloh, the rising star whose tracks on labels such as Symmetry, Mustard Music, and Truth Hertz have already become anthems. Together, they craft a forward-thinking, gritty, and immersive sonic landscape that sits perfectly within the Yamatai catalogue.
